6 Ways to Treat Nausea

6 Ways to Treat Nausea

Nausea is a common symptom that can result from pregnancy, the use of any medication, inflammation of the digestive system and even stress. Fortunately, there are diet-related measures that can be taken to treat nausea.

1. What to avoid
• Sweetened, fatty or spicy foods
• Dairy products
• Caffeine
• Strong odors

2. Stay hydrated
It is important to stay hydrated, especially when you feel sick. It is recommended to drink light fluids throughout the day, including:

◦ Chicken broth
◦ Water
◦ Herbal tea
◦ Apple juice
◦ Gatorade, Pedialyte or similar drinks

3. Make light and frequent meals
Eating light and frequent meals, especially during pregnancy, can reduce the gastrointestinal discomfort caused by nausea. A heavy meal can overload the digestive system. But a completely empty stomach can also cause discomfort.

4. Use ginger
Ginger - a long-known remedy for nausea and other digestive symptoms - is suitable for people over 2 years old, with a doctor's permission. It is safe even in small doses during pregnancy and comes in different forms such as tea, flavored snacks with ginger and tablets.

5. The BAPP Diet
The BAPP diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) can relieve gastrointestinal discomfort, including nausea. Soft, low-fiber foods, such as toast, can help calm stomach upset. Bananas also help replace nutrients often lost with this disorder, such as potassium.

6. Vitamin B6 and pregnancy
Morning nausea during the first trimester of pregnancy may result from low levels of vitamin B6. This vitamin is used in many important functions of the body, both the mother and the baby, from the stabilization of blood glucose levels to the development of the nervous system.

Foods that contain vitamin B6 include:
◦ Chickpeas
◦ Chicken breast
◦ Fortified breakfast cereals
◦ Boiled potato
